Advanced Certificate: SWAP Access to Health and Life Sciences

The Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP) is a partnership between colleges and universities in Scotland that work together to support access to higher education for adult learners. SWAP programmes are for adults who have not previously obtained a university degree and have been out of full-time education for at least three years. This course will provide you with the skills and qualifications required for entry to health and life science degrees, as well as professions allied to healthcare.

Who is this course for?

This course is for students who meet the SWAP eligibility criteria. That means you don’t already have a degree and you have been out of full-time education for at least three years. Check your SWAP eligibility on the SWAP website.

What skills will I learn?

  • Knowledge of Science and Mathematics at SCQF Level 5 and 6.
  • Generic skills including IT, numeracy and communication.

This course links into a variety of university degree courses, including science courses such as biological sciences, biomedical sciences, forensics, marine biology, nutrition and chemistry, along with a range of allied health courses such as paramedic science, dietetics, OT, radiography and physiotherapy. On completion of a university degree, you will be qualified to enter a career in health and life sciences.
