Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for someone who is interested in pursuing a career in construction and wants to understand which route is right for them before specialising on one of our Level 5 National Progression awards in Construction trades.You will gain a broad overview of each of the trade areas which will help you to understand the wider industry and develop core skills which will support your learning if you choose to progress to Level 5.
What skills will I learn?
- You will learn hands on practical skills within 4 trade areas. This will allow you to understand what is required within a trade or technician background which will enable you to decide on a future within the construction industry.
- You will develop skills in problem-solving, communication and collaboration which are vital for an effective career in construction.
- You will develop skills in how to keep yourself safe while working in a workshop or site environment.
What will I study?
- Introduction to Health and Safety in Construction
- Introduction to basic joints in Carpentry & Joinery
- Introduction to basic Painting & Decorating techniques
- Introduction to Brickwork including constructing a wall
- Introduction to Groundworks including setting out and laying paving slabs
- Theory based units including numeracy, communications and local investigations

What further study options are available?
On successful completion of your Level 4 Certificate in Construction Futures and positive internal learner reference you can then progress onto one of the following Level 5 National Progression Awards;- Joinery
- Painting & Decorating
- Trowel Trades incorporating Brickwork
