SVQ: Management SCQF Level 7

You will have the opportunity to study a number of management and leadership subjects appropriate to your aspirations and work experience. Competencies covered include personal skills and working with people, providing direction and managing yourself, facilitating and managing change, risk, health and safety, and using resources and achieving results.

Duration:

  • This course is undertaken in your workplace under the supervision of experienced management professionals using a flexible approach to match your individual learning needs. Typically these seminars are held on a monthly basis, the programme can be commenced at any time, and completion usually takes from 12 to 18 months.
  • On enrolment, you will be provided with a Student Membership of the Chartered Institute of Management for 12 months, eligible for conversion to full membership on successful completion

Who is this course for?

The Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Management at SCQF level 7 allows candidates to demonstrate competence in job-related skills in their particular area of work and expertise. It has been developed to support those working as first line managers, section managers, assistant managers, trainee managers, senior supervisors, and those working in a range of other management positions.
This qualification is jointly awarded with the Chartered Institute of Management (CMI).

What will I learn on the course?

The SVQ in Management at SCQF level 7 consists of four mandatory Units and three optional Units. The optional units are selected based on the results of your "Skill Scan" the tasks identified in your Job Description, and conversation between you, your assessor and your employer to agree.


Mandatory units outlined below;


Develop your knowledge, skills and competence

This standard is about taking responsibility for developing your own knowledge, skills and competence to meet the current and future requirements of your work and to support your personal and career development. This standard is relevant to all managers and leaders.


Lead your team

This standard is about providing direction to the members of your team and motivating and supporting them to achieve both team objectives and their individual work objectives.


Manage people’s performance at work

This standard is about managing people’s performance to ensure the objectives of your area of responsibility are achieved. This standard is relevant to managers and leaders who are responsible for managing people’s performance across the organisation or their area of responsibility.


Provide healthy, safe, secure and productive working environments and practices

This standard is about ensuring that the physical environment and working practices in your area of responsibility comply with your organisation’s health and safety policy statement and that physical resources are secure. It recognises that, in the drive for increased productivity, health, safety and security must not be compromised and is relevant to managers and leaders who are responsible for health and safety, security and productivity in their area of responsibility. This standard underpins many of the other standards, particularly those in key area FA Manage business operations and projects.
