Fife College’s Boom Radio takes centre stage at Edinburgh Fringe for second consecutive year

Posted on: 19/08/26

Media Production students are representing Fife College at the world's biggest arts festival this month as the College’s student-run station, Boom Radio, returns with official press accreditation for a second consecutive year at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Boom Radio has once again secured official press access to cover the festival, gathering interviews with international comedians, actors, and performers while professionally reviewing top-tier shows from across the Fringe.

More than 20 students from across the College’s Glenrothes Campus have been chosen to represent the station throughout the month, gaining unprecedented live media work experience on-site in the nation's capital.

Building on last year's debut success, students have already secured an impressive lineup of high-profile interviews – including legendary Fringe comedian Craig Hill, Home Alone actor Jim Ortlieb, and Saturday Night Live UK writer Omar Badawy – alongside unique feature coverage on shows exploring ninjas, pirates, the Titan submersible, and even a professional Brazilian footballer.

Students Jay D Carr and Ryan Dall, who have both studied on the College's media courses from Level 4 to HND, shared their experiences.

Jay D Carr, from Lochgelly, said:

"During my time at the Fringe, I was truly taken aback by the diversity and talent of the performers I was inundated with. Never had I seen a greater gathering of passion and creativity from all corners of the world. The opportunity to converse with so many interesting characters has been a highlight of my time studying with Fife College."

Ryan, from Kirkcaldy, said:

"The Fringe was incredible. So many people, and so many exciting things to experience for the first time, it was fantastic."

Creative Media Productions lecturer Scott Hastie said:

"I'm so proud of our student cohort for their efforts so far this year. We've seen a huge uptick in students keen to take part since our first outing last year, and we have turned out really professional content which has drawn compliments from the PRs we have been organising opportunities with.

"We did a tremendous job in our debut year at the Fringe in 2025, but this year we have blown that out of the water in terms of the quality and quantity of content.

"Even through this event alone, I've seen some of our students' confidence grow in abundance from the start of their time at the festival to the end. It's this kind of experience, on their doorstep, they can only get here on our media courses at Fife College."

Interviews and highlights from the Fringe can be found over on Boom Radio's Instagram @boomradioscotland, with the station returning to air at the start of September 2026 with its biggest schedule and most ambitious year to date.
