My story

I’ve always wanted to work with children and making a difference to people’s lives is important to me. Studying childcare and then switching to additional support needs was therefore, the right decision for me and also my career.

Fife College has supplied me with skills to enable me to transition through life, opening a range of opportunities for my career. The College lectures made a massive difference to my time at college, Jo Paterno being my first ever lecturer who told me “I would go very far in life” and had faith in my studies. During my HNC course, May Stocks made each lesson much more enjoyable and fun. Alison Inglis and Tanya Brooks supported me throughout my HND and Degree courses and I couldn’t be more grateful for that.

Making lifelong friends at College was one of the best memories for me, it made College much more enjoyable when the work load got heavier. I am grateful that I was lucky enough to have received a Russell Trust Scholarship throughout my time at Fife College too which supported me with my studies and was a motivational boost too.

I have been in my current job role for over a year and knowing that I am making a difference to someone’s life every single day makes it all worth getting up early in the morning for. My lifelong goal would be to work in a hospital or within midwifery which was my original career goal when I was younger.

The best advice I would give to future students, and I was told this myself when I first started at Fife College, is that ‘the only person that can hand you that qualification is yourself’, so work hard and do not let anyone tell you that you cannot do something.
