Fife College: we are here to help
There is a host of information for parents and carers on a variety of topics that the student support teams can help with including: Care Experienced Students, Course Choices, LGBTQ+, Respect. See our Guidance page for further information here.
Learning / Assessments - What is Moodle/iLearn?
Students are given access to a learning platform, called Moodle/iLearn where they can find all of their learning materials. Throughout their time at college, students are assessed in a variety of ways: sometimes through exams, but more often through written work, presentations, activities, videos or portfolios of work.
Students need to prove their work is their own, and we will provide them with all the information required to support them with this.
Students need to carefully check if they can use Artificial Intelligence in any assessment beforehand, and are clear on any accepted format, as well as ensuring it is referenced. Their Course Tutor, lecturers and support documents will guide them on this. We need to ensure any assessment work is the student’s own, and we may check on this.
Fife College Students' Association (FCSA)
The FCSA (Fife College Student’s Association) is here to support students at every point throughout their college journey. From in-class issues to extra-curricular events, we are here to help. You can visit our website at: www.fc-sa.net
The Fife College Charter
Our charter explains the commitments we make to every student, and sets out the best way for students to succeed. This is an agreement between the College and the student on how we’ll treat each other, and our mutual commitment to ensuring we respect each other, and hopefully ensures our students have a great college experience! You can view the student charter here.
Attendance
We have an attendance policy in place to help our students succeed, as we know there is a direct link between students attending college regularly and achieving their qualification.
We will monitor our student's attendance and we’ll flag it with them when we think there is an issue. It is important to note that students at college are treated as adults, and therefore we do not contact parents or carers etc to advise them of attendance issues.
Not attending college can affect a student's funding. The sooner we know if there is a problem, the better, as we always want to find ways to help.
Please remember the support that is available in college. More information about Attendance is available to view here.
Other things to support our students at college
We offer our students free breakfasts and free lunch (soup and a roll). No questions asked – this is for all our students.
We also loan out laptops through our Libraries and offer quiet study areas that can be used outside of class times. This is a great way for students to ensure they keep on top of their studies.
We have a Student Counselling Service and dedicated Wellbeing team available to provide help and information.
How You Can Stay in the Loop
Ask your young person to keep you updated. Asking how they are doing, and how they feel about college should hopefully encourage them to open up if they need help and support. Encourage them to give permission (if they wish) for the college to share limited information with you. Attend open days or parent information sessions if offered. Encourage student attendance when you can. The longer a student is off, the harder it can be to get back. Students can let Course Tutor’s know if they are struggling, or need additional support. We always want to help where we can
