Meet David (subtitled) from Fife College on Vimeo.
My name is David Stevens, and I am currently studying SVQ:Barbering SCQF Level 6 at Fife College. The part I enjoy most about this course is everyone is very supportive of one another. We always empower each other to work hard and keep going and to do the best job we can.
I first decided to come to Fife College after I was working in education as a pupil support officer in local high schools. As well as this, I am a full-time musician and I needed something to work around my schedule. Barbering was the perfect choice for me as I am able to work for myself and it is great fun! It has been said that barbering is one of the happiest jobs in the world.
Currently, I am doing an apprenticeship at Barney’s Barber Shop in Methil Monday to Wednesday and then at college Thursday to Friday. The team at the barber shop have been brilliant as they all push me to do my very best and learn as many techniques as I can along the way. I am now given the option to accept walk ins and get plenty of practice under my belt to make me the best that I can be.
I would highly recommend Fife College. It’s a great way of getting into the industry. My lecturers have been fantastic making sure we are all working to the highest standards we can and picking us up if we need support so we are prepared for the next cut.
