Meet Rosslyn (subtitled) from Fife College on Vimeo.

My name's Rosslyn Mullin.

I’ve been studying the BA in Childhood Practice. I've just come to an end, so just about qualified, but I've actually studied with Fife College for a number of years. I've completed my NC, my HNC, my SVQ 4, and then now my degree.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the last two years of my degree. It was a big commitment, but I've been fully supported by both the tutors and through the management structure team at Little Bugs Nursery.

I've thoroughly enjoyed a lot of the units in the degree, particularly the play unit. It was a really hands-on, practical unit. We've taken some of the learning from that and implemented that into our setting now. For example, we now do a MapDo review planning system with our children. It’s been really nice to learn new knowledge and be able to transfer that into the working environment.

Little Bugs Nursery opened at Fordell Firs back in 2021, so it's just three years old and It's fully outdoors. We take up to 52 children a day, between two and five.

Outdoor learning has always been my passion. When I first qualified with my NC, I worked in Scotland's first all-outdoor nursery and then this opportunity came up three years ago for me to become manager. So obviously working towards a degree and being able to do that at the same time has really helped me to flourish in my role.

In terms of the degree, I think it's been great to have a degree locally, so we didn't have to travel far. We met via Teams two nights a week, so it was good in terms of being able to bounce ideas off people.

I felt that the lecturers were inclusive of outdoor play, which was a pleasant surprise. Being able to showcase your own nurseries within the learning was a really good learning point for everybody.

I really enjoyed the course and would highly recommend it.
